The first road trip Faizan and I took together was back in October 2016. It was the first long weekend after we got married and we decided to drive up to Quebec City for Thanksgiving!
I remember being in awe of Old Quebec and all the European vibes of the city. I specifically remember visiting Fairmont Château Frontenac and learning that it was the world’s most photographed hotel. At that time, I could only dream about staying at such a majestic and luxurious hotel! Fast forward three years to 2019 and here we are today. Who would have known that Faizan and I would go on to start a travel blog and have the opportunity to collaborate with one of the most beautiful castles in the world?
That being said, we are so excited to share with you some details from our most recent experience with Fairmont Château Frontenac in Quebec City!
After our stay in Tremblant, we made our way over to Quebec City to discover and explore more of the province. We pulled up to the castle and all the memories from three years ago came flooding back. The Chateau was even more beautiful than I had remembered, all lit up in the starry night. The valet helped us with our luggage and car while we made our way through the revolving doors to check-in for our stay. The lobby was beautiful and the use of gold and blue was mesmerizing. After checking in, we head to our room and decided to freshen up before exploring the hotel.
Our room was super spacious and was one of the newly renovated rooms from the upgrades which were done in 2014. Even though it’s been 5 years since the renovations took place, everything felt so brand new. Although it’s impossible to pick a favourite perk of the room, the views of Old Quebec and the St. Lawrence River make it pretty hard to compete with. Another thing we loved was how comfortable the bed was. Now let me explain. We’ve slept in various hotels over the years, but Faizan and I both agreed that this was the best night’s sleep we’ve ever had. Whether it was due to the soft sheets or the mattress, I cannot say, but the bed was just too darn perfect! #goldilocksmoment #justright
The next morning, we decided to order some room service for breakfast. We both got the “Chateau Perfected Breakfast”, which included eggs (Faizan got poached eggs and I opted for the veggie omelette), optional meat selection, breakfast potatoes, coffee/tea, and fresh juice. Not only was the service super quick, but we loved the idea of keeping the dishes in a warming drawer within the cart until we were ready to feast! So genius!
Another option for a morning meal is the breakfast buffet at Place Dufferin, which is located within the hotel on the Dufferin Terrace (with amazing views of the St. Lawrence River). We chose this option for the next morning and noticed that there were many people coming in for the buffet – who were not actually staying at the hotel. This actually goes for all the restaurants in the hotel! What a wonderful way to get the Château experience, if your time in Quebec City is limited!
Before heading back to Toronto, we also had a chance to take a tour of the landmark hotel. We got a bit of a history lesson during our tour since we learned that the hotel was actually built by the Canadian Pacific Railway company back in 1893. The hotel was used as a means to lure travelers in for a stopover in Quebec City! With views of the St. Lawrence River and castle-like architecture, how could anyone resist? Today, the hotel has over 600 guest rooms and even though it’s been 126 years, I would argue visitors are still drawn to Quebec City for the very same reason: to visit the magnificent Fairmont Château Frontenac!
The level of detail, inspiration from Versailles in France, and intricacy of design within the building completely blew us away – if we could get married again, we would definitely choose this castle for our wedding venue!
Needless to say, there is so much history and grandeur within the walls of Fairmont Château Frontenac, that we feel a weekend getaway was definitely not enough! We know in our hearts that it’s only a matter of time before we make our way back to the Château to take it in all over again!
Until next time,
